A new super compact form of Zettlex rotary devices offers 16 million counts per revolution from a 2" device.
High resolution optical encoders are available on the market - costing around £1000 each. Typically such devices might offer 1 - 16 million counts per revolution from a 8" diameter, 1.5 kilogram unit. In the small print it will state that measurement performance is limited to very definitive temperature and environmental limits.
Zettlex sensors can provide 16 million counts per revolution from a 2" device that weighs just 30grams and a wide temperature range of -40 to 85 or 125Celsius. What's more the price is a fraction of the mainstream optical devices. Since there's absolutely no hysterisis the repeatability is as good as the resolution.
These Zettlex rotary devices are ideally suited to machine tools, rotary tables, robots and industrial metrology.
